U.S. president Barack Obama is to visit Turkey in April. The month does not seem to be chosen accidentally. Apparently, Obama intends to solve the old question on calling genocide the Armenian genocide in a non-standard way. Obama will probably arrive in Turkey several days before April 24. Serge Sargsyan may be invited to Ankara on some international pretext too. Although, it is not ruled out either that Obama will pay a “sudden” visit to Armenia. At least, it is evident that the issue on the recognition of the Armenian genocide will be solved in the nearest future. “The U.S. new administration takes into account Turkey’s stance and sensitiveness on the issue of the events of 1915,” said the Turkish minister of foreign affairs Ali Babajan. Although Babajan noted that the recognition may harm the U.S. and Turkish relations this is most likely a tribute to propaganda. As now almost everyone speaks about the opening of the Armenian and Turkish border. “Within a month there will be some tangible progress in the Armenian and Turkish relations and after a year or a year an a half a positively accented approach towards the opening of the border will be shaped,” stated the head of the republican parliamentary faction Galust Sahakyan. The improvement of the Armenian and Turkish relations is determined by the question whether Turkey recognizes the Armenian genocide or not. After all, for Turkey its refusal is not determined by moral reasons. Obviously, the Turkish nation does not reject but also is proud of having created a state on the territory where a lot of indigenous nations have lived. So, Turkey just does not want court rulings which result may be territorial contribution to Armenia. It is true that Armenia has already voiced no contribution complaint against Turkey but there is the danger that the genocide victim’s descendents living in the U.S. may have such complaints. And if Obama assures Turkey that the Armenians living in his country do not have any complaint so Ankara will not have any other pretext for not recognizing the genocide. NANO ARGHUTYAN
