The participants of the forum on Nagorno-Karabakh in Montevideo, Uruguay, adopted a declaration in which, inter alia, the participants reassert the need to work for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Armenpress informed referring to Prensa Armenia that the people of Nagorno-Karabakh must exercise their right to live in their historical homeland without undergoing threats and violence.
The signed document upholds the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs aimed at the peace settlement of the conflict, and calls on the international community to bring into being the achieved agreements, stop the military rhetoric to make sure the conflict does not escalate into new armed conflicts.
“We want everyone to know that in Uruguay which is thousands of kilometers from Nagorno-Karabakh there are people who are not indifferent to this matter,” Daniel Radio, member of the parliament of Uruguay, said after reading the declaration.
Senator Raphael Michelini stated that what they adopt in the result of the forum is an act of justice. The human rights activist Oscar Lopez Goldaracena underlined that the people of Nagorno-Karabakh have self-determinated and chosen their model of free and sovereignty state. The former deputy foreign minister of Uruguay Belela Herrera held out hope that their initiative will become a model for the entire world.
The forum on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict took place on September 2 in the capital of Uruguay. Representatives of the legislature, civic activists, scientists and human rights activists were attending the forum. The participants of the forum intend to promote Uruguay’s stance on the peace settlement of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
