Serzh Sargsyan Should Have Attended NATO Summit

    • Politics - Tuesday, 22 May 2012, 16:31

Mushegh Mkrtchyan, the representative of the Armenian National Congress to NATO, a former foreign ministry officer, thinks it was wrong of Serzh Sargsyan to shun NATO summit in Chicago.

“It is an authoritative forum and is more productive for expressing a stance, having bilateral meetings,” he says.

In regard to the explanation of the foreign ministry that Serzh Sargsyan did not attend the summit because he disagreed with some provisions of the final declaration, he says the declaration clearly states that NATO supports the Minsk Group efforts. Mushegh Mkrtchyan thinks the decision of the president of Armenia is related to the position of the Russian president.

Besides, he notes that the NATO summit discussed such an important issue as the future of the partnership, and not attending the discussion of the issue of Afghanistan is not clear, considering the participation of our peacekeepers in the NATO action.
