Javakhk People Don’t Need Moscow’s Protection

Advisor to the Georgian president Van Bayburt noted that the last 10-15 years have shown that NATO security guarantees are real. Someone rejects this, someone is influenced by other states, and NATO values are not accepted as necessary, says Van Bayburt. He thinks NATO security guarantees are more secure than those of other security systems.

As to relations NATO-Armenia, they are moving in the right direction. At the same time, he noted that Russia who also has relations with NATO is jealous about cooperation of Armenia and Georgia with the Alliance. Van Bayburt says if NATO opened a logistics center in Georgia or Armenia instead of Ulyanovsk, Moscow would fall into a rage.

He noted that NATO is committed to democratic, peaceful values, and in this sense it differs from the CSTO. NATO is a military-political bloc, while CSTO is a purely military bloc, the leader of which is a military general. For participation in any operation, NATO asks for permission of political leadership of all 28 countries, while CSTO decisions can be taken only by one state.

Van Bayburt noted that Moscow failed to fulfill its obligations at the expense of small countries for a number of times.

He also noted that Georgia’s wish to become a NATO member which has been approved stands for the intention of strengthening and democratization of the country. Joining NATO, Georgia will fortify its security, Van Bayburt noted.

The Eastern European countries which have recently become NATO members note sharp increase of investments, even sharper than after joining the European Union.

Commenting on the statement by the Russia-based Javakhk community that in case Georgia joins NATO Javakhk may announce secession, Van Bayburt noted that this Organization has been established by the Russian authorities and special forces. “They never make a statement when a Javakhk Armenians are murdered in Russia. They make anti-Georgian statements,” said Van Bayburt. Javakhk people are a sober part of the Georgian society and they don’t need to be protected by Moscow. People know this is a provoker of an organization, he said.
