Ararat Cement Slate Employees Went on Strike Demanding Pay Rise

  • Business - 15 May 2018, 18:22 reports that today hundreds of employees of Ararat Cement Slate Factory went on protest in front of the factory. Gayane Hovhanyan of Ararat informed the reporter of that they demand increase in salary and improvement of their working conditions. The staff went on strike and blocked the main road to the factory.

Gayane Hovhanyan informed that the protesting employees receive 50,000-60,000 AMD a month which is roughly 100-120 USD for hard and hazardous work.

The striking employers demand a meeting with Member of Parliament Gagik Tsarukyan who owns the factory because the CEO Manuk Arakelyan does not listen to their claims and does not do anything to improve their working conditions.

The demonstrators told Gayane that Manuk Arakelyan, the CEO of the factory, fires the employees without any explanation.
