2012 will be a food crisis year, said economist Tatul Manaseryan noting that it won’t bypass Armenia.
According to the economist, in order to avoid the food crisis, it is necessary to first of all develop the local production, which Armenia has started doing since last year. On the other hand, it is necessary to enlarge the state food reserves of the country.
According to him, there are worrying issues: half of farming land is not used but we are able to change the situation, we need to be more decisive, said the economist.
According to Tatul Manaseryan, total concern over the growing rate of the dollar is a surprise in this stage. The economist predicts that the dram will revaluate in July.
“Along with a plenty of concerns, I can say that foreign alarms that lead to depreciation of the dram will have no negative influence on the economic processes,” he said. Tatul Manaseryan also noted that the falling prices of agricultural products affects the general consumer price index and no price increase is reported in the country.
