Seiran Ohanyan and Edward Nalbandyan Are Left for “Dessert”
Today Serzh Sargsyan affirmed the second group of ministers. Some of them were reappointed, others are new. Karen Karapetyan had his “people” appointed in the economic block of ministries. Hovik Abrahamyan’s “people” stayed in their positions. Gagik Tsarukyan’s person returned to the post of minister of sport, Armen Amiryan’s affirmation as minister of culture is the overhead. Hence, the government of internal agreement is complete. Like the previous cabinets, it reminds a patchwork rather than a government.
The most interesting part is left, in fact, the last intrigue – the appointment of the ministers of foreign affairs and defense. The Armenian press reported periodically that Nalbandyan and Ohanyan will leave their posts.
At the same time, reports came that both are trying to have their issues resolved in Moscow. Information came that Seiran Ohanyan received a proposal to head CSTO but the minister dismissed this.
Today the press reported that Serzh Sargsyan and Seiran Ohanyan talked for two hours and a decision was made that Ohanyan will not remain minister of defense. For Nalbandyan, they say he has resolved his problems through Moscow and will remain minister of foreign affairs.
Interestingly, the chief of staff of the president administration Vigen Sargsyan is seen as a possible candidate for both positions.
It should be noted that both positions have a “geopolitical” importance.
