The number of the permanent population in Armenia as of 1 July 2016 was 2,995,100 of which the urban population is 1,905,700 and 1,089,400 is rural population. According to the National Statistics Service, the regions with the biggest population are Armavir, Ararat and Kotayk with 266,200, 258,800 and 253,900 people respectively. Vayots Dzor region has the smallest population – 50,800.
1,074,100 people live in the capital. The districts in Yerevan with the biggest population are Shengavit, Malatia Sebastia and Nor Nork with 139,200, 136,200 and 130,600 people respectively.
In Yerevan, Nubarashen district has the smallest population at 9,800 people.
