Ahead of the presidential election in NKR, about 100 veterans of Artsakh war addressed an open letter to the RA president, explaining their decision by the role of the Armenian authorities on the NKR elections, as well as the importance of official Yerevan’s stance for the voters of Artsakh. “In 2007 you personally supported Bako Sahakyan, which had an crucial role in his election. Most of us trusted you and your candidate, expecting progress. But in the past 5 years Bako Sahakyan did not live up to our expectations and deviated from his pledges. As a result, corruption was centralized, its rate went up, economy is monopolized, tax burden increased, law-enforcement bodies are used to intimidate people. This atmosphere generates pessimism, frustration, causing the active part of the society, including businessmen, to leave the country.
You share responsibility as well because Bako Sahakyan enjoyed your support all through his term of office.
We expect you to use your influence on the authorities of Artsakh in the presidential election to keep them from using the administrative resource, other illegal actions. Illegal steps by the authorities jeopardize internal stability in the country.
Kind regards,Veterans of Artsakh war”
