The head of the National Assembly standing committee of financial, creadit and budget Gagik Minasyan said in answer to our question how the government is going to ensure a 7% economic growth in case the IMF has predicted a less than 4% growth that this is their expectation under the current political conditions. Note that the IMF Armenia mission head Guillermo Tolosa told Lragir.am the organization predicts a less than 4% economic growth for Armenia.
Gagik Minasyan noted that the reason for the IMF's pessimistic prediction is “they have not seen the implementation of the program yet.”
According to Minasyan, abuse of dominant position on the market will be battled in the following years, and an aggressive policy will be conducted for industrial development and boost of export. In this case, there will be all the preconditions to ensure a 7% growth for the next five years.
Gagik Minasyan sees no shortcomings in the program of the government. He says that the new program is aimed at using the local resources to ensure growth.
Minasyan says they will be trying to enhance the level of diversification of the economy to make the Armenian economy invulnerable in case of crisis. According to him, the anti-crisis program of the government has been fulfilled successfully, while the reason for 14.1% economic decline in 2009 is the large-scale construction in the GDP and the issue of diversification of the economy.
