Verdict of Dismantlers

    • Country - Saturday, 09 June 2012, 12:08

On June 8 the administrative court passed the verdicts on Manvel Sargsyan, director of ACNIS think tank, member of the first brigade of dismantlers, Karen Shikonyan and Karo Yeghnukyan, members of the dismantling brigade, for disobeying the police and bypassing the fence set up by the police. Judge Artsrun Mirzoyan passed the verdict on Karo Yeghnukyan, which was also in favor of the Police.

The representative of the Police did not show up.

After the verdict Manvel Sargsyan said he was not surprised at the decision of the court. He says they saw the reluctance of the court for fair trial because they were not given time to bring facts when the police insisted that the actions of the members of the brigade were not illegal.

“We must think what to do because I think otherwise the courts will not lead us anywhere. The problem is not 50,000 drams, we wanted trial to show the real situation of the country, Manvel Sargsyan said.

They are not considering applying to the Court of Appeals. Most probably, they will ignore this decision and think about releasing Armenia of the judicial system.

Karen Shikonyan says the court met the political demand. Civil consciousness is gradually rising in people, Karen Shikonyan said. Arpineh Galfayan, chairwoman of IDHR, said these verdicts showed that a judge is not even independent to rule an administrative case, which is the problem of judges.

At the end the activists started gathering money in a hat to donate it to the police and asked the judges to contribute. The judges refused.
