Hovik Abrahamyan in Trap

The PA decision not to form a coalition put the ex-speaker Hovik Abrahamyan in an ambiguous situation. The career of Hovik Abrahamyan was smooth so far because the RPA and PA were together. Being on the side of RPA, he had “roots” in PA, as well as acted as a link between these two government groups, balancing the situation. Thanks to this role he could stay on the horizon and as he said, one does not need brains to do it.

Time changes, however, and Hovik Abrahamyan’s former role is not timely. Not because one needs brains now. In the Armenian system brain is never needed. The problem is the role, and not only for Hovik Abrahamyan’s case.

According to press, RPA is dissatisfied with Hovik Abrahamyan because of his behavior in election processes. He is suspected of a double game. On the other hand, double game has always been Hovik Abrahamyan’s style, and it cannot be otherwise. On the other hand, after the PA decision all the double games ended. Generally, the decision of PA is a moment of truth for all the actors of the so-called political field. And it should be noted that not only Hovik Abrahamyan is in this situation. A lot of opportunists and by-passers will appear in the same situation who caught their chance in the system called political.

After the meeting of the executive board of the RPA Hovik Abrahamyan held out hope that PA will not be opposition. Hovik does not want PA to be opposition because otherwise his life will change, and he will not get a government post and his friends and relatives will not remain in their big fat positions. This is the meaning of the Armenian “politics”.
