Aznavour: Akhaltsikhe-Yerevan?

Charles Aznavour took part in the dedication of the renovated fortress of Rabbat in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia. His mother came from this town. It is one hour drive from Akhaltsikhe. However, Aznavour is not likely to visit Armenia though he is the ambassador of Armenia to Switzerland and UNESCO.

Last year Aznavour uttered tough words on the leadership of Armenia, accusing them of a policy that leads to growth of emigration.

Most noted Diaspora Armenians seem more indifferent towards the homeland. Why are they so when Armenia takes pride in its Diaspora and the Armenians are looking for family names ending with “yan”. Meanwhile, Aznavour visits Georgia but does not come to Armenia.

Last year the Diaspora representatives expressed their opinion on the quality of governance and the criminal and oligarchic regime of Armenia. The Catholicos of the Great House of Kilikia Aram I has called for ending the policy which repels people from their homeland. Then Charles Aznavour gave an interview to call the things by their names. Finally, the members of the ARF of the United States boycotted the reception for Serzh Sargsyan.

The leadership of Armenia did not respond to the intentions of the famous representatives of the nation. Aznavour was not recalled but they did not excuse themselves, as if hinting that it is not worthwhile to argue with an elderly person who is famous all over the world. Everyone remained in their place, the government continues to nourish the criminal and oligarchic system, people continue to leave the country, and the famous Armenians prefer to keep away from Armenia.
