Anatomy of Ruling Charity

There was a TV report showing Gagik Tsarukyan’s charity fund organizing Happy Summer events in Yerevan yards, sponsoring fun programs.

The report also televised one of the heroes of the program asking the children to thank Gagik Tsarukyan Charity. And children thanked.

Most probably, many of those kids have never heard Gagik Tsarukyan’s name but they were forced to thank him. Certainly, no one would be punished if they refused to thank and applaud. But all the same, it is still compulsion to do a good thing and then force the child to thank for it.

Is it obligatory to tell the children the name of the sponsor and capture a “thank you” from them? What if the children just have fun? They are already used for someone's campaign, is it necessary to establish this status and make them subjects of the campaign.

Different charity actions are held in Armenia, different charity organizations have been opened but the charity climate has not been established yet. There is even an experienced class of benefactors who, instead of forming the charity climate, transfer the social-political culture into the scope of charity.

Instead of the beneficiaries of charity or service, they put themselves at the center of everything with their personal or group interest.

They don’t ensure media coverage of their charity actions, they do these actions for the sake of the media coverage.

The same is for other charity organizations, not only Gagik Tsarukyan’s fund.

It will be certainly very good if there is no reason or need for charity and people are able to have fun and satisfy their needs by merely doing their jobs.

But apparently, these reasons and needs will still persist in Armenia because it is also beneficial to many of the benefactors to keep the political power. Charity is a means of keeping political power. In addition, it is a legitimate means so they will use political power to make sure all the reasons and needs for charity are in place for a long-term perspective.

Along with this, the culture of charity will stay mutated as long as the principle of the Bible is not observed: “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” The point is that in case of Armenia this definition is not valid for the greater part of the benefactors. The reason is the same. Charity is a means of keeping political and economic power so it can’t have a quality different from the power itself.
