Republican Galust Sahakyan told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that Vartan Oskanian defames the PAP and presents the opinions of Levon Ter-Petrosyan in a more civilized way rather than those of the PAP.
Apparently, for Galust Sahakyan truth is equal to defamation. The point is that Vartan Oskanian’s speeches about the current situation of the country, even though they are not complete truth, are closer to the reality than the PAP position is.
Returning to active politics, Oskanian has been raising economic and political issues which need an urgent solution.
The question whether Oskanian is independent or serves Robert Kocharyan’s political interests is another topic. It is also another question why Vartan Oskanian failed to bring up the serious systemic issues and vices a few years ago when he was still the foreign minister of the same system which was not more open then and did not respect human rights better than the current one.
All these questions should be asked to Vartan Oskanian regularly. But the fact that he is raising urgent issues and making adequate evaluations of the situation is true and it is meaningless to argue this fact.
Hence, if the Republican Party’s vice-chair Sahakyan thinks Oskanian is defaming the Prosperous Armenia party, then it means that for Galust Sahakyan truth stands for defamation.
But there is no need to be surprised because Galust Sahakyan is a Republican for whom truth is like a cross against the devil. Although they are willing to try to believe the truth with all their hearts to have it change to a lie more quickly. Republicans are comfortable with lies, they do not feel defamed.
Vartan Oskanian may be defaming the PAP in the sense that this party has been involved in the activities of the RPA in the past four years which have brought the country to this state turning it a target for Oskanian’s criticism. Oskanian, willingly or unwillingly, defames the PAP or the traditional PAP also in the meaning that he does not dare assess the domestic affairs sharply and criticize the reasons. In this sense, the PAP fails to keep up with Oskanian and not vice versa because Oskanian is closer to the truth while PAP is closer to the RPA’s trust.
