The Head of the Department of Census and Demography of the National Statistical Service Karine Kuyumjyan reported that if in 1990 there were 28 thousand marriages, in 2009 the number was 18,873. The lowest was recorded in 2000 - 11000.
If in 1990, per 1000 inhabitants there were 6 marriages, in 2009 - 5, 8. In 1990, per 28 thousand marriages there were 4 thousand divorces. In 2009, as compared with 2008, the number of divorces fell by 6%.
The third of marriages is in Yerevan where in 2009 6831 marriages were registered and 1241 divorces. The highest index for marriages after Yerevan is the regions of Gegharkunik, Kotayk and Armavir, the lowest in Syunik and Tavush. The highest percent of divorces is in the region of Lori- 2 divorces per 1000 inhabitants. The second is Yerevan, the last is Tavush.
In 2009, 183 divorces per 100 marriages were registered in Yerevan, 330 in Lori.
